St Faith St Martin Church of England Junior School

The pupil premium is additional funding for publicly funded schools in England to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and close the gap between them and their peers.

Our prime aim for the use of pupil premium is to raise attainment by supporting pupil progress academically, socially and emotionally of our pupils who are in receipt of a pupil premium to prepare them for the next stage in their education.

Pupil Premium Statement 2021-22:

For the current academic year, schools must include:

  • a summary of the main barriers to educational achievement faced by eligible pupils at the school

Our most recent data shows that 84% of our disadvantaged pupils achieved the expected standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. This outperforms the national figure by some margin, which sits at 65%. We are very pleased with this data and it shows the impact we are having with this funding.

Going forward we would like to see more of disadvantaged pupils achieve the higher standard in Reading, Writing and Mathematics.

    • Maintaining the DHT to lead a team of staff in impacting specifically on the disadvantaged pupils;
    • Providing a team of teaching assistants with a remit to support pupils that are in receipt of the pupil premium – directed by DHT through intervention leadership;
    • Maintaining a pastoral lead in school who supports disadvantaged pupils in wider school life and to ensure the pupils are supported with any wellbeing issues – such as social development to lead to a successful time at school;
    • Maintaining additional staffing (TA) to support teaching and learning in class throughout all classes extended TA time to be directed by class teacher;
    • Maintaining administrative time to promote attendance specifically amongst the disadvantaged pupils;
    • Attendance at before or after school club for pupils who have little or no care in place after school;
    • Enriching the curriculum for pupil premium children by funding the Y4 and Y6 residential trips;
    • Priority PE kits for pupils who forget their PE kit and otherwise would struggle to access the learning effectively.

We will measure the impact through how effective the school is at ‘closing the gap’ between disadvantaged pupils and the performance of other pupils nationally.

Our data shows our pupil premium pupils do very well when compared to national averages which we sit above when a comparison with similar groups is made.

We used this funding for specific activities to support their pupils’ education recovery in line with the curriculum expectations.

  • how the effect of this expenditure on the educational attainment of those pupils at the school will be assessed

Through external data measures, particular catching up Year 6. Our July 2022 results show we are above national figures in all data measures.
