The Young Coders Competition aims to tackle a national shortage in coding ability by encouraging 8-11 year olds to have fun coding and spark a lifetime interest in the skill that may lead to them to a career developing websites, apps and computer software.

The competition is for children in Year 4, 5 and 6 (ages 8-11) to create a game in Scratch relating to the theme: "Teach your Pals about the Past" that can be used to teach their peers about a period of history or an historical event.

The competition is a suitable project for children to complete at home during the current school closure period if they already have some experience of using Scratch or with the support of a parent or guardian interested in learning simple coding alongside their children. The information pack includes 6 weeks of lessons for those with some knowledge of coding and 12 lessons for those with no experience at all.
