Homework Expectations

Homework is given out on a Friday and due in the next Wednesday.

Children should have reading, spelling and maths homework each week.

Children have a homework book to complete their reading comprehension and maths homework in.

Reading practice is logged in their home-school diaries and spellings for the week should be written or stuck into here as well.

Homework should be completed neatly and class teachers need to reinforce expectations for the quality of homework.

Reading

Children should be reading a minimum of 3 times a week and their home-school diary should be signed by an adult at home.

Their reading does not have to be a home school reader – it could be a magazine but the child needs to have recorded what they have read and their parents must have signed it.

Children should also be given a reading comprehension homework each week.

Spellings

The children should be given 10 spellings to learn each week differentiated to their ability.

Maths

Maths homework should be differentiated to meet the needs of all children.

If you want them to use particular methods to work out their maths, then please include an example of the method on the homework for their parent’s reference.

Children not completing homework

If children are continually not completing homework then please contact their parents to inform them.

If there are children in your class who have genuine reasons for not being able to get their homework done at home then please try and get a volunteer/TA to help them complete their reading and spelling homework at an appropriate time.
